Lil Yachty (born Miles Parks McCollum) is an American hip-hop artist from Atlanta, Georgia. He is known for his creative implementation of sound samples from uncommon sources such as Super Mario Bros., Charlie Brown, and Rugrats all coming together to form his own self-titled genre ‘bubblegum trap’.
While to date he has beset a strong reputation for himself, with his entertaining lyrics and distinctive melodies, inevitable, it was a long road to get to that point. After moving to New York in 2015, Lil Yachty dedicated a lot of effort into building up a substantial Instagram following particularly through networking to people with online street fashion. The same year, Yachty hit his first break with the release of his single ‘One Night’, which peaked to No. 13 in the Billboard Hip-Hop charts. Credit where it’s due though, recognition of the track stemmed from its use in a comedy video that went viral.
Stepping into 2016, he released his debut mixtape ‘Lil Boat’ in March, and followed with a collaboration with D.R.A.M to create one of the biggest hits of the year ‘Broccoli’, which peaked to No. 5 in the Billboard Hot 100. His career continues to propel with the signing of his joint record deal with Capitol Records, Motown Records and Quality City, and is now being sought out as a featured artist by hip-hop idols like Chance the Rapper. Furthermore, he is one of the billed names for the infamous Wireless music festival in London, this upcoming summer.
With all of these achievements in such a narrow span of time, we are thrilled to welcome Lil Yachty as our guest host/performer in Libertine on this Friday night. We encourage all of those who appreciate quality hip-hop to lighten up your evening with us in attendance.
